It was a beautiful day, lots of sunshine, and the snow had melted just in time on Saturday to make it a perfect day for an outing.Ê
The guided tour was cancelled because of a scheduling problem, so we did a self-guided tour of the Western Museum of Mining & Industry (WMMI) in Colorado Springs, inside and out (we even got an entrance price break!). Before we all went inside, we had a nice "tailgate" picnic lunch.
During the tour of all the neat mining relics, we came upon the modern prospecting exhibit with several wall posters explaining different methods of gold recovery. The last poster had a familiar picture of a wire gold "Bird's Nest" that was found by GPR member Larry Boyes (see photo), who was unaware the display was at the museum. It also was a surprise to museum employees to know Larry was there that day. I guess you might say he is more famous than he knew. It is too bad that we only had ten members in attendance at this outing.
I personally think those members who didn't attend missed a great outing. If you have never been to the WMMI, you don't know what you are missing. See you in the stream!
